The library card catalog was one of my favorite stops at the library. Oh, the possibilities.

I’d pull that drawer out and flip through the cards, wondering what exciting book I might find that day.

Looking at the rows and rows of little drawers full of cards was almost as fun as perusing the shelves or stopping at a book store.

Bonus baby and I started reading George Washington’s Breakfast this week. When I flipped the page and saw the card catalog, I shrieked. My son looked at me like I’d lost my marbles, and even though I tried to explain, I don’t think he understood the deliciousness of the card catalog. The good news is that he does like to smell old books–so all’s not lost.

Thinking of the library card catalog reminds me of my fabulous find on Facebook marketplace last year. I found a listing for library card drawers and sent my oldest son to drag them home.

I was so excited because they were only $100, and library card drawers sell for a lot of money these days. The drawers languished in the car for a couple of days before he dragged them in for me to clean.

They were so dirty…..I cleaned for hours. I was exhausted and plopped in my chair to enjoy looking at my latest vintage find. The moment I sat down, my brain said, “Those aren’t library card drawers.”

UGG….I worked on the drawers for hours, not once thinking that the drawers were far too wide for 3″ x 5″ cards.

Well, it’s still cool, but library card drawers they are not.
